Weather Alert: NiMet Predicts Rainy And Stormy Conditions Across Key Southern States

In its weather outlook released on Sunday, February 8, in Abuja, NiMet said northern states are expected to experience mainly sunny and partly cloudy conditions throughout this period.
The agency noted that sunny and hazy weather will prevail over the northern and central regions on Tuesday, while dust haze is likely in parts of the North on Wednesday, particularly in the afternoon and evening.
In the southern region, sunny skies with occasional clouds are expected, along with isolated thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River later in the day.
NiMet detailed the Tuesday forecast as follows: sunny and hazy skies for the northern and central regions, and sunny with occasional clouds over the south. Early morning thunderstorms with light rain are anticipated in Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, while additional thunderstorms are expected later in the day across Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
On Wednesday, the north is forecast to remain sunny and hazy in the morning, with dust haze developing later. Central states are expected to experience similar sunny and hazy conditions throughout the day. In the south, skies will be partly cloudy with sunny intervals in the morning, and isolated thunderstorms with light rain are likely in Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states.
NiMet also cautioned that dust particles remain suspended over parts of the North-Central region and advised residents to take precautions.
“People with asthma or other respiratory conditions should be careful. Drivers should exercise caution during rain, and airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning. Residents should stay updated through NiMet weather alerts,” the agency said.
