Breaking: IGP Disu Honours Newly Promoted DIGs, Reshuffles Leadership Across Police Units

On Monday, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, formally decorated the newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), charging them to enhance intelligence-led policing across Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Disu also called on the senior officers to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and boost operational coordination within the force.

The newly decorated DIGs include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada. Another officer, Fayoade Adegoke, had received his decoration the previous week.

During the ceremony, the IGP highlighted that the promotions place the officers in pivotal leadership roles and tasked them with using their experience to enhance accountability and operational efficiency.

“Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we serve. Let your tenure be defined by discipline, fairness, transparency, and dedication to service,” Disu said.

He stressed that elevation to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional trust, demanding integrity, courage, and commitment to justice.

The IGP outlined key expectations for the DIGs, including providing strategic leadership, maintaining internal discipline, and supporting ongoing reforms aimed at modernizing and repositioning the police. He also noted emerging security threats in the country, such as organized crime, cyber-enabled attacks, and violent criminal networks.

“As top strategic leaders of the Nigeria Police Force, your responsibilities extend beyond operational command. You must ensure that our policing strategies adapt to the evolving security landscape,” Disu added.

He further encouraged the officers to uphold professionalism and accountability while driving the transformation of the force into a technologically advanced and citizen-focused institution.

Disu also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for backing initiatives to strengthen police operations and commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.

Expressing confidence in the new DIGs, the IGP affirmed that they would live up to the trust placed in them and contribute meaningfully to improving the professionalism and effectiveness of the Nigerian Police Force.
