PDP Shake-Up: Reconciliation Efforts Fail To Stall National Convention, Says Wike Camp
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has affirmed that ongoing disputes or reconciliation efforts within the party will not disrupt its planned national convention.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The statement was made on Wednesday by PDP Caretaker Committee’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna, during a pre-convention press briefing where he outlined the schedule leading up to the March 29–30 gathering.
Haruna emphasized that internal discussions, disagreements, or negotiations for reconciliation will not be allowed to delay or alter the convention process.
“Reconciliation is an ongoing process, but it cannot stop the caretaker committee from executing the convention. As we informed representatives of the Turaki group at our last NEC meeting, two things remain untouchable: the existence of this caretaker committee and the holding of the National Convention,” he said.
He further stated that the party will release the names of members of the National Convention Planning and Organising Committee, along with its subcommittees, on Thursday. These committees will manage critical areas such as venue arrangements, security, accreditation, media, protocol, elections, zoning, screening, and medical services.
“We expect to publish the committees and subcommittees’ membership tomorrow,” Haruna added.
All committees are scheduled to be inaugurated on Saturday, March 21, at 8 p.m., with the venue to be announced. The following day, March 22, the Zoning Committee will convene to determine how party positions are distributed across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, a key factor shaping the convention’s outcome.
An emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is set for Monday, March 23, at 12 noon at the FCT Minister’s Lodge in Life Camp, Abuja. Immediately afterward, the sale of nomination forms will commence, running until 3 p.m. on March 25.
Thursday, March 26, has been designated for appeals arising from the screening process, with proceedings expected to conclude by 7 p.m.
Before the main event, a pre-convention cocktail will be hosted on Saturday, March 28, at 5 p.m. at the Minister’s Lodge in Life Camp, with attendance by invitation only.
“The National Convention is scheduled for March 29–30 this year,” Haruna confirmed.
The party also stressed that all procedures comply with electoral regulations, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been notified and has monitored the party’s ward, local government, and state congresses.
“The Independent Electoral Commission has long been notified about the PDP National Convention and has supervised our ward, local government, and state congresses. The National Convention will follow the same process,” he said.
Haruna added that all state congresses have been completed in line with a court ruling, with only the zonal congresses for the South-East and North-West remaining, both scheduled for Saturday.
“We have completed all state congresses following the judgment of Justice Omotosho, and the zonal congresses for the South-East and North-West will take place on Saturday,” he said.
