During a media briefing at the ministry’s Abuja headquarters on Wednesday, Umahi invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to examine all contracts and ongoing projects within the ministry. He emphasized that the move is aimed at ensuring accountability and public confidence.
He revealed that the ICPC’s preliminary report is already complete, while the EFCC’s findings are awaited following its ongoing audit.
Umahi stressed that all procurement procedures, from tendering to project execution, were strictly adhered to and that the ministry has nothing to conceal.
He stated, “We are not hiding anything because we are committed to the people. Any file or information they require is available. Everything we do in the Ministry of Works can be defended. We transitioned from asphalt to concrete to ensure roads last up to 100 years with minimal maintenance.”
The minister also urged journalists to verify facts before reporting, noting that poorly maintained roads disrupt movement and affect the daily lives of citizens.
Umahi commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing infrastructure development and reaffirmed that all projects under the ministry follow due process and can withstand scrutiny at any time.
