A veteran journalist and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has issued a strong rebuke of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, over his conduct and reported nomination for a diplomatic position.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Momodu, in a detailed statement, described Fani-Kayode as a “wasted investment,” expressing concern about his temperament and suitability for public office.
He recalled his longstanding knowledge of Fani-Kayode’s late father, Remilekun Fani-Kayode, noting that he had known the elder Fani-Kayode before meeting his son.
Despite acknowledging Fani-Kayode’s privileged background and education, including studies at Cambridge University, Momodu said his conduct in public life had remained controversial.
He criticised attempts by family and associates to reform him, alleging that such efforts had not succeeded.
“Femi is a classic case of a wasted investment… but turned out an outright and incurable thug,” he said.
Momodu further described him as confrontational, alleging that he frequently engages in unnecessary disputes.
He also questioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reported consideration of Fani-Kayode for an ambassadorial appointment, warning that such a move could generate controversy given his public image.
According to Momodu, Fani-Kayode had long expected political elevation and had grown frustrated over delays in securing such opportunities.
He alleged that the former minister had explored alternative political connections, including seeking assistance to reach former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Momodu added that Fani-Kayode had once expressed deep frustration over his political situation, suggesting that he had even appealed to associates for help if his expectations were not met.
He said the former minister becomes ineffective without political power and urged him to focus on personal reform and discipline rather than confrontation.
Momodu stressed that public office requires restraint and maturity, advising him to prioritise rehabilitation and responsible conduct.
The exchange comes shortly after Fani-Kayode, now appointed Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, fired back at Momodu, predicting political decline for him ahead of the 2027 elections and dismissing his influence in strong terms.
