Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Thursday, Ndume noted that although the opposition boasts prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, the party has yet to firmly establish itself politically.
He argued that the opposition leaders have not presented fresh ideas capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Despite his concerns, Ndume cautioned against dismissing the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
“I am not worried because no one is bringing anything new to the table. It’s still about Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku, Amaechi, or Peter Obi. I don’t see any clear alternative being offered,” he said.
“The person currently in charge is Tinubu, but those seeking to replace him, including the ADC, appear inconsistent. At first, I had confidence, but when individuals focus more on personal power, it becomes less convincing.
“So far, despite having strong personalities, they have not been able to organise themselves effectively. However, no opposition should be underestimated, no matter how small.”
Ndume also drew a parallel with past political developments, recalling how the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) once underestimated the APC.
“That was how the PDP initially dismissed the APC as unserious. Buhari contested several times before eventually winning. So, I’m not ruling out Atiku, Obi, or Amaechi,” he added.
