The development followed his appearance before the Kaduna State High Court for the hearing of his bail application, after which the matter was adjourned to Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
El-Rufai is facing a nine-count charge filed by the ICPC, involving allegations of fraud and abuse of office.
Proceedings on Tuesday were held behind closed doors, with journalists denied access to the courtroom.
It would be recalled that the ICPC had on Monday amended the charges against the former governor at the Kaduna High Court.
The amendment resulted in the removal of the second defendant, Amadu Suleiman, Managing Director of TMDK Terminal Limited, from the case.
In a statement, the ICPC’s counsel, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, told the court that the joint charge was revised due to Suleiman’s repeated absence, which was attributed to medical reasons.
The court granted the request, allowing the prosecution to proceed solely against El-Rufai.
Following the amendment, the former governor was re-arraigned on nine counts under several laws, including the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, the Advance Fee Fraud Act, the Kaduna State Penal Code, and the Kaduna State Public Procurement Law.
