Senator Abdul Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central, has attributed Nigeria’s worsening insecurity to what he described as excessive political engagement by the country’s leaders.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Ningi said many political office holders, himself included, have shifted focus from governance to politics at the expense of addressing security challenges.
He stated that the failure of leadership has contributed significantly to the rising insecurity, stressing that leaders must take responsibility for their shortcomings in safeguarding lives and property. According to him, acknowledging these failures is necessary to avoid appearing indifferent to the suffering of citizens.
Ningi said, “I look at politics as part and parcel of what is aiding this thing because a lot of us, myself included, have contracted our time in politicking rather than providing the much-needed security for our people.”
He added that there is no regret in admitting his involvement, describing the situation as a collective leadership failure.
The senator also reiterated his earlier call for urgent intervention measures, including a possible suspension of political activities in the most affected areas. During a recent plenary, he warned that insecurity in parts of the country has reached a critical level requiring extraordinary steps.
He listed Borno, Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, and parts of Kano State as some of the most affected regions, stressing that insecurity anywhere in the country affects the entire nation and demands immediate attention from lawmakers and government officials.
