Power Struggle Erupts In NDC: Kano Chair Rejects Kwankwaso’s Influence Bid
The Kano State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Usaini Isa Mai Riga, has insisted that the party’s structure will not be surrendered to former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
His remarks came just 24 hours after Kwankwaso officially joined the party and received his membership card.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Post on Monday, Mai Riga stated that the current leadership would resist any attempt to take over the party structure, describing such a move as unacceptable.
He explained that attempts to reach an agreement with Kwankwaso before his defection had failed, despite two separate meetings held to discuss possible leadership arrangements.
According to him, “He wants us to hand over the entire party to him, despite the sacrifices and time we invested in building it when it had little or no attention. This will not happen. We will explore all legitimate means to ensure Kwankwaso does not take over the party structure.”
Mai Riga also disclosed that the suspension of the planned state congress was based on directives from the party’s national leadership, adding that the decision was influenced by Kwankwaso’s recent entry into the party, even though congresses were proceeding in other states.
He said, “We were instructed not to hold our congress because of plans linked to handing over the party to Kwankwaso. That is why I am here instead of at the congress venue. We will not allow the rights of party members to be undermined.”
The chairman further noted that Kwankwaso had not yet formally engaged with the state leadership of the party.
