The Nigerian Senate has stated that it has no knowledge of any alleged ₦68 million transaction reportedly linked to Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The clarification follows claims by businessman Nonso Okafor, who alleged that in October 2024 he was persuaded to provide $100,000 through a senior legislative aide to the senator, identified as Osereme Christen Omofoma. He claimed he was assured the money would either be refunded or compensated through federal government contracts.

Through his lawyer, Elochukwu Obi, Okafor later filed a petition with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), requesting an investigation into the matter.

However, Senator Kingibe has denied the allegation, describing it as false and an attempt to tarnish her reputation. Okafor, on his part, has maintained that his claims are accurate.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Yemi Adaramodu, said in an interview that the Senate has no record of such a case.

He explained that the legislature does not investigate personal dealings of lawmakers outside their official responsibilities, noting that its focus remains on lawmaking, oversight, and representation.

Adaramodu added that the allegation of abuse of office has not been formally brought before the Senate, stressing that the chamber can only act on matters officially presented to it.
