According to a source who spoke with Vanguard, the suspects were brought to the Effurun Area Command under the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday night as investigations intensify.
The arrests are believed to be part of efforts by investigators to track everyone involved in the movement of the firearm and ammunition, as well as those connected to Ogidi’s death.
Although the police have yet to officially confirm the development, the source disclosed that one of the arrested suspects allegedly sent the firearm through a transport company from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to Effurun.
The source explained that the pistol was reportedly collected in Effurun before Ogidi, also known as “Mine,” attempted to deliver it to the supposed owner in Sapele at the Effurun Motor Park, where he was allegedly apprehended and later killed extrajudicially by ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers.
It remains unclear whether the second suspect arrested was the driver who transported the parcel from Yenagoa to Delta State.
The source, however, maintained that the sender of the weapon was definitely among the two individuals currently in custody, adding that investigations are still ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects linked to the case.
Ogidi was reportedly intercepted in Effurun over a parcel said to contain a pistol and ammunition before the fatal incident occurred.
ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers allegedly connected to the killing were earlier dismissed by the Nigeria Police Force and are expected to face prosecution over the incident.
