Speaking during an interview with Nicolai Tangen, Dangote said he chose to channel his attention and finances into completing the Dangote Refinery rather than pursuing ownership of the English football club.

According to him, he seriously considered buying Arsenal when the club was valued at around $2 billion, but later realised that prioritising his refinery project made more business sense.

“I’m a huge Arsenal supporter and I came very close to buying the club,” Dangote said.

“At the same time, I was heavily committed to ensuring the refinery project was completed. Arsenal was worth about $2 billion then, and I had to decide whether to invest that money in the club or continue focusing on my business.”

Dangote noted that he ultimately chose to remain a loyal fan instead of becoming the club’s owner.

“I decided to keep supporting Arsenal as a fan. I watch their matches regularly and always wear their jersey whenever they play. It was better for me to remain a supporter and continue investing in my business,” he added.

The businessman also pointed out that Arsenal’s market value has increased significantly over the years, making a takeover less appealing now.

“Today, the club is worth far more, so it no longer feels worthwhile,” he said.
