The monarch made the disclosure on Saturday while celebrating his 23rd coronation anniversary in Lagos.

According to Oba Akiolu, the incident happened during the detention of former Lagos State governor, the late Sir Michael Otedola, under the Abacha administration.

He explained that he had appealed to the authorities at the time to secure the release of Otedola’s international passport, insisting that the military government needed wider public support and acceptance.

The monarch said that after the passport was eventually released, someone approached him with an offer of ₦5 million as a gesture of appreciation, but he rejected it.

“It is not because of money. Anything anybody is doing, do it with the fear of God and pray to God,” he stated.

Oba Akiolu stressed that integrity, discipline, and the fear of God are essential qualities for genuine leadership and public service.

Reflecting on his 32 years in the Nigeria Police Force, the monarch described policing as one of the most honourable professions when carried out with sincerity and integrity.

He also urged Nigerians to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Tinubu, expressing optimism that the Federal Government’s economic and infrastructure reforms would eventually yield positive results.

“The journey may be rough, but they will succeed because God Almighty has a way of doing things,” he added.
