Drama At Lagos Airport As NDLEA Intercepts Chinese National With Large Drug Consignment

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 63-year-old Chinese woman, Ting Hung Kiong, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 31 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis, into Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The suspect, reportedly a naturalised Malaysian citizen, was arrested on Sunday, May 17, 2026, shortly after arriving from Thailand via Dubai on an Emirates Airline flight.

She was intercepted at the Terminal 2 Arrival Hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by NDLEA operatives.

According to the agency, investigations revealed that she travelled from Malaysia to Thailand before proceeding to Nigeria through the United Arab Emirates, carrying two large suitcases allegedly containing the illicit drugs.

During interrogation, the suspect claimed she works as a caregiver in Malaysia and said her daughter funded her trip from Malaysia to Thailand and onward to Nigeria.

She further alleged that after spending two weeks in Thailand, she was handed the luggage at the airport for delivery in Nigeria.

In a separate operation at the Lagos airport, NDLEA officers also intercepted a large consignment of Tapentadol tablets imported from India.

The shipment, which arrived on an Emirates Cargo flight, was monitored before being handed over by the Nigeria Customs Service on Friday, May 22.

The consignment contained 29 cartons with 1,825,710 tablets valued at ₦2.19 billion.

At the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, officers arrested Onyeka Valentine Emeka during passenger clearance on an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Sierra Leone via Addis Ababa. He was later placed under observation and allegedly expelled 185.36 grammes of cocaine.

In Abuja, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, a 29-year-old engineer, Babatunde Prosper Afekhide, was arrested while attempting to board a flight to Milan, Italy. A search of his luggage reportedly uncovered 10,280 pills of Tramadol, Tapentadol, and other controlled substances concealed in a carton.

NDLEA also made several interceptions at courier companies in Lagos, including MDMA pills hidden in a bicycle part bound for the Netherlands, tramadol concealed in soap destined for the United States, and more pills hidden in cosmetic containers headed to the United Kingdom.

In Edo State, operatives raided Igwe community in Owan East Local Government Area, recovering 59 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 489kg and additional cannabis seeds.

In Kano, a 30-year-old suspect, Isah Sani, was arrested on the Zaria–Kano expressway with 196,000 pills of Exol-5.

At the Seme border in Lagos, officers recovered 59kg of skunk from a warehouse in Mowo, Badagry, while in Ekiti State, a major raid in Ikole-Ekiti led to the seizure of 1,116kg of skunk and the arrest of Ogundana Adebayo Julius.

NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the operatives involved in the nationwide operations and urged continued enforcement alongside ongoing drug abuse awareness campaigns across communities, schools, and workplaces.
