Breaking: Wike Reveals Deal Behind Fubara’s Decision To Drop Second-Term Ambition
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, violated a political agreement linked to the earlier impeachment crisis after indicating interest in a second-term bid.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Wike made the claim on Monday while inspecting several near-completed infrastructure projects across Abuja, including the Renewed Hope City in Karsana, the Old Keffi Road in Dei-Dei, the Airport Road–Kuje corridor handled by Arab Contractors, the Kuje–Gwagwalada phase one project by Gilmour, and the City Gate project executed by Julius Berger.
Reacting to reports that Fubara had withdrawn from the 2027 governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and reportedly backed House of Representatives member Kingsley Chinda for the party’s ticket, Wike said the governor should not have purchased nomination forms in the first place.
He argued that Fubara’s actions amounted to a breach of political understanding and disregarded President Bola Tinubu’s repeated peace interventions in the Rivers political crisis.
“In the first place, he ought not to have collected the form because the agreement was reached that the impeachment should be dropped, while he should also not talk about a second tenure,” Wike said.
He added that by obtaining nomination forms, the governor failed to demonstrate political maturity and respect for the earlier arrangement brokered with the intervention of the President.
“We thought that Mr. President had been intervening severally and pleading with the legislature not to continue with impeachment,” he said.
Wike also praised Kingsley Chinda’s political experience and described him as a strong contender, noting his legislative background and influence within the National Assembly.
According to him, Chinda is a “tested and experienced” politician whose capabilities are widely recognised.
He further commended ongoing FCT infrastructure projects, stating that many of them were ready for commissioning and praising contractors for delivering quality work.
Wike specifically highlighted the City Gate project as an initiative influenced by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing her as supportive of the administration’s development agenda.
He added that Julius Berger had assured completion of the project between the end of May and early June, expressing confidence that the timeline would be met.
