Musa made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Friday while reflecting on a previous coup investigation in which he played a key role.

According to the Defence Minister, he and several senior officers were responsible for uncovering and reporting the alleged coup plan. He added that he also chaired the committee that carried out the investigation.

He insisted that any effort to overthrow the government through a coup would not succeed, stressing that Nigerians would strongly resist any attempt to disrupt democratic governance.

Musa maintained that democracy remains far better than military rule and affirmed that the Armed Forces are fully committed to protecting Nigeria’s democratic system.

The minister also stated that military personnel have been adequately supported, noting that there have been no salary issues while efforts continue to improve allowances and provide better equipment for troops tackling insecurity across the country.

Speaking during the interview, Musa said: “I was cleared and returned after five weeks, which proved that I had no involvement in the matter. In fact, we were among those who uncovered and reported the coup plot. I also chaired the committee that investigated the case.”

He explained that part of the military’s focus is to educate younger officers on the dangers and consequences of military takeovers, emphasizing that democracy offers greater opportunities than any military regime.

Musa described those behind the plot as “confused individuals,” accusing them of misleading inexperienced junior officers who eventually found themselves in serious trouble.

He said the investigation into the matter was thorough and transparent, adding that the prosecution process and court-martial proceedings are already ongoing.

According to him, all suspects are being given fair opportunities to defend themselves, while due process is being strictly followed.

The Defence Minister further described the alleged coup attempt as unnecessary, arguing that the country was making progress and that the military had been receiving adequate support from the government.

He noted that troops are being better equipped and welfare efforts have continued to improve.

Musa also warned that anyone considering a coup in Nigeria would be wasting their time, insisting that even ordinary Nigerians would reject and resist such an action.

“It was completely foolish for them to attempt what they planned,” he added.
