Tension In APC Ends In Decision: Party Refuses To Revisit 2027 Primary Results
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its list of candidates for the 2027 general elections and ruled out any possibility of reviewing the outcomes of its recently held primaries, despite petitions and protests from aggrieved aspirants.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Findings by Punch indicate that the ruling party has finalised the results submitted to its national secretariat and is preparing to upload the names of successful candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
The decision effectively closes the door on further appeals and calls for fresh primaries by aspirants who have alleged manipulation and imposition during the exercise.
A senior party official and a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) both confirmed that the APC has not altered, and is not considering altering, the outcome of the primaries.
The principal official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “We are not reviewing the results of the primaries. The timeline for primaries and appeals has already expired. We are now waiting for the access code to upload the list of winners.
“Everything has been concluded. We are not aware of any review process being discussed.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled June 26 for the release of access codes to its nomination portal, while July 11 has been set as the deadline for submission of candidates’ details for the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, at least 54 serving federal lawmakers, including senior senators and members of the House of Representatives, failed to secure return tickets during the APC primaries held between May 16 and 18.
Several aggrieved aspirants, particularly from states such as Lagos, Delta, Zamfara, Kogi, Rivers, Plateau, and Osun, have filed petitions, threatened legal action, and demanded fresh primaries.
Responding to questions about the reports from the party’s primary election appeal panels, the APC source said the appeals did not significantly alter the results of the exercise.
He stated, “From what I have seen, the appeal reports did not bring any major changes to the primary results because many of the petitions were considered frivolous.
“However, any properly substantiated appeal was reviewed. Some petitions raised issues like zoning, which are pre-primary matters.
“Others claimed procedural issues, such as failure to properly resign from a former party before joining the APC. These are not valid grounds to overturn primary results. Many of the petitions were based on such issues.”
The official added that most constituencies did not even record appeals after the primaries.
He said, “There are 109 senatorial districts, 360 House of Representatives seats, and thousands of state assembly positions. In most of these constituencies, no appeals were filed.
“So the question is: where is this so-called review report coming from? The final list may not differ from what is already known.”
