Ambassador-designate to Mexico and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has expressed surprise over what he described as an insulting remark directed at him by popular Nigerian singer, Davido.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The dispute between both figures began after Davido performed at a FIFA World Cup countdown concert in Los Angeles wearing a customised jacket featuring the names of more than 40 abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State, along with the message “Bring Them Home.”

Omokri had earlier criticised the gesture, arguing that highlighting terrorist incidents on a global stage could unintentionally benefit the perpetrators.

In response, Davido shared a video of Omokri on Instagram and captioned it, “UMU BINGO @renoomokri fowl,” a comment Omokri later described as offensive.

Reacting in a statement posted on his social media page on Tuesday, Omokri said he was shocked by the language used, adding that such remarks were unbecoming of an international entertainer.

“Thank you for your feedback. I was rather surprised by your response… Most shocking is your insult,” he wrote.

“You are an international celebrity whom Nigeria is proud of. Coming to insult me on my Instagram profile with such vulgar words should be beneath you,” he added.

Omokri maintained that his criticism was not personal, stressing that his concern was about the potential consequences of publicising kidnapping incidents on global platforms.

He argued that while Davido’s intentions may have been noble, such actions could inadvertently amplify the visibility of terrorist groups and aid their operations.

He further compared Davido’s approach with that of American streamer IShowSpeed, who attended the same event promoting Nigeria positively.

“How can you, a Nigerian citizen with a global platform, go on a global stage to give publicity to terrorists… while IShowSpeed used the same platform to promote Nigeria?” he said.

Omokri also referenced past global kidnapping incidents, including the Chibok schoolgirls abduction and the October 7, 2023 attacks in Israel, to support his position on media coverage of terrorism.

Quoting former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, he added that “publicity is the oxygen of terrorism,” insisting this informed his caution.

He concluded by expressing hope that Davido would better understand his perspective, wishing him well.
