A senior member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the process of uploading candidates’ information to the INEC portal was at an advanced stage.
According to the source, the details of President Bola Tinubu and his running mate are expected to be uploaded before the middle of the week.
“We are making steady progress with the upload of our National Assembly candidates. We expect that on or before next Wednesday, the details of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate will also be uploaded. We are confident of meeting the July 11 deadline for submitting all our candidates to the INEC portal,” the official told The Nation.
Checks at the APC’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department at the Muhammadu Buhari House national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday indicated that party officials were continuing to interface with the INEC portal without any technical challenges.
Sources within the department said the profiles of most principal officers of the 10th National Assembly, alongside several serving lawmakers, had already been successfully uploaded.
They also confirmed that the details of four serving governors—AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State—had been submitted to the electoral commission’s portal.
The governors are among prominent APC members who secured the party’s senatorial tickets ahead of the 2027 elections.
The race to beat INEC’s deadline follows a comprehensive review of the party’s primary elections after hundreds of petitions were filed by dissatisfied aspirants.
Following recommendations by the APC Primary Election Appeal Committee, the National Working Committee revised the list of candidates by replacing six senatorial candidates and 19 House of Representatives candidates who had initially emerged from the party’s May primaries.
The changes affected constituencies across Abia, Kogi, Taraba, Benue, Ebonyi, Ondo, Kaduna, Niger and Kwara states.
The updated list was subsequently forwarded to INEC in a letter jointly signed by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru.
Speaking on the development, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka revealed that the party received more than 700 petitions from aggrieved members following the conclusion of its primary elections.
“The party received over 700 petitions from aggrieved members after the conclusion of our shadow elections,” Morka said.
He explained that the petitions were carefully reviewed, resulting in changes in some constituencies, while candidates whose victories were upheld by the appeal process retained their tickets.
Morka, however, declined to state when the APC would officially release its final list of candidates, stressing that the party’s immediate focus is ensuring that all cleared candidates complete and submit their INEC Form EC9 nomination documents before the deadline.
“Our immediate priority is to ensure that all approved candidates properly complete and return their Form EC9 nomination documents for upload ahead of the strict INEC deadline, rather than focusing on the public release of the final list,” he said.
Despite the adjustments made after the appeal process, several high-profile APC figures, including serving governors contesting for Senate seats in 2027, retained their party tickets.
