The high-level meeting, which lasted for more than two hours, reportedly centred on a comprehensive assessment of the country’s security situation and ongoing military operations in various conflict zones.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, President Tinubu received detailed briefings on the progress of ongoing security operations, emerging threats and strategies aimed at strengthening the nation’s security architecture.

Although the Presidency confirmed the meeting by releasing photographs from the session on Thursday evening, it did not immediately disclose the resolutions or decisions reached.

Among those in attendance were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa; the Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Emmanuel Undiandeye.

Also present were the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Mohammed; the President’s Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Adeyinka Famadewa; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, alongside other senior security officials.

The meeting came just two days after troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, supported by the Air Component of the Joint Task Force in the North-West, disrupted what the military described as a major planned terrorist attack in Zamfara and Katsina states.

According to military authorities, three Nigerian Air Force aircraft tracked a convoy of about 300 heavily armed terrorists travelling on motorcycles from the Sunke-Kumbo axis towards Gummi during the July 7 operation before carrying out precision air strikes on the group.

In a separate operation, security forces also reportedly neutralised Alhaji Tukur, identified by the military as a notorious bandit commander and younger brother of wanted kingpin Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye, during an operation in Dogon Kade.
