The Truth Revealed: Why Top Figures Visited El-Rufai During His Hospital Stay, Aide Finally Speaks
Media aide to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Muyiwa Adekeye, has dismissed allegations that his principal breached any court order during his recent visit to the National Hospital, Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The development follows the arrest of Professor Bello Abubakar, El-Rufai’s personal physician, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The commission accused the doctor of making false statements concerning the former governor’s hospital visit.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Adekeye described the ICPC’s claim that the medical appointment was turned into a political gathering as false and misleading.
According to him, the anti-graft agency had been aware of El-Rufai’s request to be examined by his personal physician well before July 6. He also disputed the commission’s assertion that the former governor had no urgent medical concerns before the July 7 appointment.
Adekeye explained that El-Rufai’s family had initially requested a 5:00 p.m. appointment at the National Hospital to ensure a quieter environment for the consultation. However, he alleged that the ICPC unilaterally rescheduled the visit to 10:00 a.m. without informing the family until the morning of the appointment.
He stated that after consulting with Professor Bello Abubakar, an oncologist, in a private room, El-Rufai remained in the hospital’s private wing for about an hour while waiting for a written medical report, which the ICPC reportedly required before returning him to custody.
During that period, Adekeye said several individuals who had learned of El-Rufai’s presence requested to greet him, while others who happened to see him at the hospital also stopped by to exchange pleasantries.
He argued that these interactions did not amount to a political meeting, stressing that the commission’s own actions contributed to the situation.
“It was the ICPC that changed the appointment from a quiet evening schedule to a busy morning slot, controlled access throughout the visit, and had its officers present at the scene,” Adekeye said, adding that the commission’s account was inconsistent with the facts.
The spokesman also challenged the ICPC’s allegation that El-Rufai violated the terms of a court-approved medical visit, saying the agency failed to identify the specific court order or its conditions.
According to Adekeye, the only relevant order was issued by Justice Aikawa of the Kaduna High Court on April 1, 2026, directing that El-Rufai be granted access to medical care while in custody. He maintained that the ruling did not impose restrictions on who could see or interact with the former governor during his hospital visit.
Adekeye further called for the immediate and unconditional release of Professor Bello Abubakar, insisting that the ICPC should disclose the specific allegations against the physician before taking further action.
