Nigerian actress Yvonne Jegede has declared that she will no longer engage in public advocacy on national issues following criticism over her recent comments on governance and political corruption.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The actress came under fire on social media after condemning what she described as systemic double taxation, arguing that many Nigerians are compelled to provide essential infrastructure and services despite paying taxes that should fund such amenities.

Expressing her frustration, Jegede wrote:

“People work hard to earn a living and still pay their taxes, yet they are expected to provide basic amenities that the government should be responsible for. Meanwhile, the tax revenue is allegedly benefiting a few individuals. This country has stretched my mental health to its limits.”

Her remarks generated mixed reactions online, with some users supporting her views while others criticized her stance.

Responding to the backlash, Jegede said the experience had convinced her that Nigerians were “not worth fighting for.”

She argued that public figures who speak out against poor governance are often attacked instead of being supported.

“The more I speak about the disturbing things happening in my country, the more I get dragged. I now understand why many people choose to remain silent during difficult times. I wasn’t raised to ignore injustice or look away when humanity is being trampled upon, but Nigerians aren’t worth fighting for because bigotry has become the order of the day,” she wrote.
