End of The Run? Soldier Arrests Suspected Kidnapper Linked To Jos–Makurdi Highway Attacks

understands that the arrest was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on on Friday.

According to the report, the suspect was apprehended at about 5:00 p.m. on July 16 during a targeted operation carried out by troops stationed at the Sector’s Standing Operating Base in Bangai Village, Riyom Local Government Area.

The operation formed part of ongoing military efforts to combat criminal activities and strengthen security along the busy Jos–Makurdi highway.

Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspect to an armed kidnapping gang accused of terrorising motorists and residents through abductions and other violent crimes along the route.

The suspect is currently in military custody and is said to be cooperating with investigators by providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the syndicate and the dismantling of the criminal network.

Troops Arrest Suspected Terrorist Informant in Borno

In a separate operation, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of spying on Nigerian troops and supplying intelligence and logistical support to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in northern Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, the suspect, identified as Muhammad Mustapha, allegedly admitted during preliminary interrogation that he monitored military movements and relayed intelligence to insurgents operating around the Lake Chad region.

Mustapha, a native of Monguno Local Government Area, was arrested on July 16 during a night patrol and identification exercise conducted by troops of the 403 Amphibious Brigade and the 130 Battalion (Motorised), working alongside personnel of the Nigerian Borderless Logistics Corps and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

The operation was carried out under Operation Desert Sanity V.

Investigators alleged that the suspect was tasked by the insurgents with monitoring military activities along the Baga–Cross Kauwa Main Supply Route.

He reportedly observed troops conducting route and shoulder-clearance operations before passing the information to the terrorist group.
