Mystery Deepens As Woman Reveals Husband’s Final Warning Before Disappearing From Offshore Job

A Nigerian woman has raised the alarm over the disappearance of her husband, an offshore chef who has reportedly been missing since August 2024 after allegedly placing a distress call to her.

The woman said her husband worked as an intercontinental chef in the catering department of a vessel operated by Sigma Oilfield, where he had been employed since 2011.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the man travelled to work on July 29, 2024, after taking a helicopter from the airport to the offshore vessel. His wife said that about a week after arriving at his workplace, he contacted her through WhatsApp and told her that there was allegedly a gang-up against him.

She said she advised him to remain calm and avoid any confrontation while at work. However, on August 6, 2024, she was informed that her husband had gone missing. His phone and wallet were reportedly found on his bed.

The woman further alleged that three days after his disappearance, a baker working on the vessel contacted her and requested her husband’s phone password, a development that she said raised further concerns for the family.

She also claimed that her husband had previously told her he was being threatened by a man identified as Campos, whom she described as the head of the vessel’s catering department. However, the allegations have not been independently established.

According to the woman, she and her husband’s family have made several efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. She said petitions were submitted to the Inspector-General of Police, the vessel’s owner and the contractor her husband was working for at the time.

She added that the family also petitioned the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), which investigated the matter but did not make any arrests. According to her, the agency later informed the family that the company had described the disappearance as mysterious.

More than two years after the incident, the woman continues to seek answers about her husband’s whereabouts and is appealing to anyone with useful information to come forward and help the family establish what happened to him.
