2023 Election Bombshell: Atiku’s Former Running Mate Okowa Reveals What He Knew Before Results
Former Delta State Governor and former vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, has revealed that he was convinced the party would not win the 2023 presidential election even before the final results were announced.
Okowa, who served as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election, disclosed that he had predicted the likely outcome of the election to some Christian leaders before Nigerians went to the polls.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the former governor said his assessment of the political situation at the time led him to believe that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would emerge victorious, followed by the PDP and then the Labour Party (LP).
“I knew we would not win the election. And even when I met with the Christian leaders, I told them that APC will win, while PDP will come second and then LP will come third,” Okowa was quoted as saying.
His prediction ultimately reflected the final outcome of the election, as APC candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared the winner, while Atiku came second and Labour Party candidate Peter Obi finished third.
Okowa made the disclosure while speaking at an APC gathering in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, where he also urged party supporters to remain committed to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former governor called on supporters to ensure that their loyalty to the party is translated into actual votes for APC candidates during the forthcoming elections.
“I am overwhelmed by the large turnout of our people. I urge you to remain loyal to the APC and ensure that your support translates into votes for all our candidates in 2027,” he said.
