Lookman Fires Up Super Eagles Ahead Of Crucial Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau Clashes
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman says Nigeria are determined to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a strong note by securing victories in their opening two matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
Eric Chelle’s team will open their qualifying campaign against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to Bissau for their second fixture against Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Lookman recognises that both matches will present difficult challenges but insists that the Super Eagles are focused on collecting maximum points from the two encounters.
“The whole team is really looking forward to it. Two very important matches are coming up, and the opponents are, of course, tough to face,” Lookman said in an interview with Sporty TV.
“But we’re eager to win both of these games. We know the matches will be difficult, but we’ll do everything we can to achieve it.”
The opening fixture against Madagascar will mark Nigeria’s return to competitive action on the continent since their 2025 AFCON third-place playoff against Egypt in January 2026, when the Super Eagles secured victory on penalties.
Nigeria will rely on the experience and attacking quality of Lookman as they begin their qualification campaign. The Atletico Madrid forward has already made seven appearances across competitions for his club this season and has scored once.
With two challenging fixtures scheduled within a few days, Lookman believes the Super Eagles must remain focused and give their best in both matches as they begin their pursuit of qualification for the 2027 AFCON tournament.
