Police Officer, Girlfriend Found D3ad After Reported Relationship Dispute In Kogi
A tragic incident has been reported in Kogi State after a police corporal identified as Amos allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Grace, who was also a police corporal, before taking his own life with an AK-47 rifle.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, and reportedly followed a prolonged period of disagreements between the two officers over issues in their relationship.
Amos, who was attached to the Ajaokuta Divisional Police Headquarters, was reportedly assigned to night-duty station guard and had resumed duty at approximately 6 p.m. However, he allegedly left his post several hours later and went to Grace’s quarters, where he reportedly opened fire on her before turning the weapon on himself.
Reports indicated that Grace sustained gunshot wounds to her shoulder, lower abdomen and leg. The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the sequence of events and the full details of the officers’ deaths, remain subject to police investigation.
A source familiar with the matter alleged that the officers had been experiencing relationship difficulties in recent months, reportedly involving trust issues and accusations of infidelity. The disagreements were said to have escalated into physical confrontations and threats.
The source further claimed that the officers had previously been detained by the Divisional Crime Officer following disputes between them. The officer reportedly advised them to end their relationship to prevent further conflict.
Despite the alleged intervention, tensions reportedly continued until Friday’s fatal incident.
The spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, Afusat Saliu, confirmed that the incident had been reported and said investigations were ongoing.
“We are aware of the incident, and the case is currently under investigation; we will update members of the public after the investigation is concluded,” she stated.
The police have yet to conclude their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The reported relationship disputes have not been established as the definitive cause of the incident, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
