Tragedy In Kogi: Police Probe Suspected Murder-Suicide Involving Two Officers

Published

The Kogi State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the deaths of two people in Ajaokuta Local Government Area following reports of a suspected murder-suicide involving two police officers.

The incident reportedly involved a male corporal identified as Amos and a female corporal identified as Grace, who were said to have been in a romantic relationship. However, the police have yet to officially confirm the identities and service status of the deceased or establish the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Afusat Saliu, confirmed that an investigation was underway and assured the public that an official statement would be released when the findings were conclusive.

Preliminary reports alleged that Amos, who was reportedly attached to the Ajaokuta Division, shot Grace before turning the weapon on himself with an AK-47 rifle.

A source familiar with the incident claimed that the male officer reported for night duty at about 6 p.m. on Friday but allegedly left his assigned post a few hours later.

The source further alleged that he went to Grace’s quarters at approximately 9 p.m. and fired three shots, striking her in the shoulder, lower abdomen and leg, before shooting himself.

The account linked the incident to an alleged prolonged disagreement between the pair, reportedly involving accusations of infidelity and a breakdown of trust in their relationship.

According to the source, the two officers had been dating for several years, but their relationship allegedly deteriorated in recent months, with disagreements said to have escalated into physical confrontations and threats.

The source claimed that the Divisional Crime Officer had previously intervened in the dispute, detaining the pair at one point and advising them to end the relationship to prevent further conflict. However, the alleged disagreements reportedly continued despite the intervention.

Responding to enquiries about the incident, Saliu said the command was aware of the case and was working to establish what happened.

She declined to confirm whether the deceased were members of the Kogi State Police Command, explaining that the investigation was still ongoing.

The police spokesperson also refused to classify the incident as a murder-suicide before the investigation was completed, stressing that the circumstances surrounding the deaths had not yet been conclusively established.

She assured the public that the command would provide further information once a conclusive report became available.

The incident has raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the deaths, but the allegations regarding the relationship, the shooting and the suspected motive remain unverified pending the outcome of the police investigation.
