Transfer Bombshell: Lionel Messi Rules Out January 2027 Return To Argentina

Lionel Messi has reportedly ruled out an immediate return to his boyhood club, Newell’s Old Boys, as the Argentine football legend intends to remain with Inter Miami until at least 2028.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano dismissed reports linking the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner with a move back to Argentina, insisting that there are currently no negotiations between the player and the Rosario-based club.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Romano disclosed the development on Friday, October 30, explaining that Messi and his family are settled in the United States and are happy with life at Inter Miami.

In a post on X, the transfer journalist stated that Messi intends to honour his existing contract, which runs until 2028, while leaving open the possibility of extending his stay beyond that period.

Speculation about a possible return to Newell’s Old Boys intensified after reports emerged in Argentina suggesting that the 39-year-old forward could rejoin the club in January 2027.

The reports generated excitement among Newell’s supporters, who have long hoped to see the club’s most celebrated academy graduate return to Rosario before bringing his illustrious playing career to an end.

Messi began his football journey at Newell’s Old Boys before moving to Barcelona as a teenager, where he developed into one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

However, Romano’s latest update suggests that a reunion with the Argentine club is not currently being considered.

Messi joined Inter Miami in 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain and has since become a key figure at the Major League Soccer club.

The Argentine superstar recently signed a contract extension that will keep him at Inter Miami until 2028, strengthening indications that he intends to continue his career in the United States rather than return to his homeland in the immediate future.
