Boniface Gets Manager’s Approval Despite Limited Playing Time At Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen manager Carles Martínez has praised Nigerian striker Victor Boniface following his brief appearance in the club’s emphatic 5-2 victory over 1. FC Nürnberg in the DFB Cup.
The 25-year-old forward has struggled to secure regular playing time since the beginning of the season but was handed an opportunity late in the encounter at the BayArena, replacing Jonas Hofmann during the closing stages.
Despite spending just over three minutes on the pitch, Boniface impressed his manager, who acknowledged the striker’s determination to play a more significant role in the team.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Martínez said he understood the Nigerian international’s frustration over his limited involvement, noting that the forward was eager to contribute more to the club’s performances.
Speaking after the match, the Leverkusen manager expressed happiness with Boniface’s attitude and described his contribution during the brief appearance as positive.
The coach said he was pleased for the striker because he knew how much he wanted to play and become an important member of the squad, adding that Boniface performed well during the few minutes he was given.
The appearance against Nürnberg marked Boniface’s second outing of the campaign. His previous appearance came as a substitute in Leverkusen’s opening fixture of the season against SV Elversberg.
The Nigerian forward will now be hoping to build on the opportunity and convince the coaching staff that he deserves more regular playing time as the season progresses.
With Martínez acknowledging his desire to make a greater contribution, Boniface will be eager to use future opportunities to regain his best form and strengthen his position in Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking plans.
