The Executive Chairman of Zaki Local Government Area in Bauchi State, Mallam Masud Aliyu Umar, has died in a fatal road accident, barely three months after assuming office.

Umar reportedly lost his life on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Konkiyal village in Darazo Local Government Area while returning from a political meeting in Bauchi.

According to reports, the deceased had attended a stakeholders’ meeting of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), organised by the party earlier that day. He was said to have been travelling back to Zaki Local Government Area when the accident occurred.

His death came less than three months after he was elected chairman of Zaki LGA on August 17, alongside the chairpersons of the other 19 local government areas in Bauchi State.

Before venturing into elective politics, Umar served as the Director-General of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), where he was involved in coordinating emergency response activities across the state.

His sudden death has brought an abrupt end to his tenure as the elected chairman, leaving residents and political associates mourning the loss of a public official who had only recently assumed office.

The funeral prayer for the late chairman was scheduled to hold on Monday, November 2, at 2 p.m. at the Palace of the District Head in Mur Mur, Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Umar’s death has thrown the Zaki Local Government Area into mourning, as residents come to terms with the loss of their chairman in the tragic road accident.
