2027: South-West ADC Leaders Break Silence On Alleged Rift With Atiku

Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the South-West geopolitical zone have dismissed reports of a disagreement with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, insisting that the coalition remains united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The clarification followed a closed-door meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the party leaders addressed claims circulating on social media that they had rejected Atiku’s presidential ambition in favour of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the immediate past South-West Zonal Chairman of the ADC, Rasak Eyiowuawi, the leaders described the reports as false and misleading, accusing those behind them of attempting to create confusion within the party.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the ADC leaders maintained that there was no disagreement with Atiku over the party’s presidential ticket, describing him as a respected leader and an important figure within the coalition.

“There is no rift with Atiku Abubakar. We are one family in South-West ADC. Atiku remains our leader and father. We have no fight with him over ticket,” the statement read.

The leaders also expressed confidence in the ADC’s ability to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, warning that internal divisions would undermine the coalition’s political objectives.

They urged supporters to disregard rumours suggesting that the party’s South-West leadership had endorsed Obi as the region’s preferred presidential candidate against Atiku.

Reaffirming their commitment to the coalition, the leaders stressed that Atiku, Obi and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi were all respected figures within the political movement.

“We are calling on all our supporters to disregard rumours of division in the ADC. Atiku is our leader, Peter Obi is our leader, Amaechi is our leader – we are all one. Our focus is to win 2027,” they stated.

The statement comes amid growing speculation over the ADC’s presidential ticket and the political direction of opposition figures preparing for the 2027 general elections.
