The Federal Government has completed the payment of President Bola Tinubu’s financial reward to the Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with each player receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday, November 2, 2026, noting that members of the team’s coaching crew and other officials also received the naira equivalent of $50,000 each.

The payment fulfils the President’s financial commitment to the players after they secured their record-extending 10th continental title in July 2025.

Before the latest payment, the players had received title documents for three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, as well as certificates confirming their national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for fulfilling his promise, describing the gesture as a significant recognition of the team’s achievement.

Dikko said the Super Falcons had made the country proud and commended the President for ensuring that all the promised rewards were delivered within a short period.

He also attributed the successful payment to the collaboration between the commission and the Ministries of Finance, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development.

According to the NSC chairman, the prompt fulfilment of the reward package represents a departure from previous situations in which Nigerian athletes had to wait several years before receiving promised incentives.

He encouraged other Nigerian athletes to draw inspiration from the development and remain confident that their efforts in representing the country would be recognised and rewarded.

The Super Falcons clinched their 10th WAFCON title in July 2025 after staging a remarkable comeback from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final played in Rabat.

President Tinubu announced the reward package during a presidential reception held in honour of the team on July 28, 2025. Apart from the financial incentives, he promised each player a three-bedroom apartment in Abuja and the OON national honour, while members of the technical crew were also promised financial rewards.

The latest payment comes after a similar reward package was delivered to Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress. Their players received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each in September 2026 following their fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket championship victory in 2025, while members of their coaching and support teams received $50,000 each.
