A Nigerian woman has sparked reactions on social media after revealing that she gave a tricycle operator ₦20,000 following a ride during which she was his only passenger.

The woman, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @Onemodupe, explained that she felt sympathy for the driver after noticing that he had no other passengers. Moved by his situation, she decided to give him the money as a tip.

In her post, she said the gesture was motivated by compassion, adding that she did not want to feel as though she had brought bad luck to the driver’s business.

“I entered this man’s keke today and I was the only passenger he had. I felt so sorry for him that I sent him ₦20K,” she wrote.

Her disclosure attracted mixed reactions from social media users, with some praising her generosity while others questioned the decision to publicise the gesture.

A user, Tallar Boi, jokingly suggested that the driver might begin to associate her presence with bad luck, while Ademola Kingsley described her as a kind woman and said he could hardly remember the last time someone gave him a gift.

Another commenter, Azia, made a remark about her supposed plans to travel to the United Kingdom, while Emperor jokingly said he might buy a tricycle and begin operating one because of her generosity.

However, Olatide Rid questioned why she chose to share the act of kindness publicly, suggesting that acts of generosity should sometimes remain private.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman’s account has generated conversations online about kindness, generosity and whether people should publicise the good deeds they perform for others.
