Man United Wonderkid JJ Gabriel Reveals Ballon d’Or Dream Amid Real Madrid Transfer Speculation
Manchester United teenage prospect JJ Gabriel has revealed that winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or is his biggest ambition as speculation continues over a possible move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The 16-year-old remains registered with Manchester United but has reportedly been training individually in Spain after leaving the club and relocating with his family.
According to reports, Gabriel has reached a verbal agreement with Real Madrid over a potential transfer. However, no formal contract has been signed, and the two clubs have yet to begin official negotiations.
The youngster disclosed his ambition on Friday when he was approached by Spanish newspaper Marca after a training session. The publication reportedly presented him with a copy of its newspaper featuring a front-page story about his expected move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
When asked about his career aspirations, Gabriel responded in English, saying, “My dream is to win a Ballon d’Or.”
His declaration comes amid growing speculation about his future, with reports indicating that Real Madrid have verbally agreed personal terms with the player and his representatives.
Manchester United would reportedly be entitled to compensation if Gabriel leaves the club, although the amount could be lower if he moves to a team outside the Premier League.
Despite still being registered with United, the teenager’s eligibility to move to Spain is not expected to present a major obstacle. He reportedly holds a European Union passport through his mother, who has Cypriot origins, potentially making a move to Spain easier.
However, his possible transfer could create complications regarding the UEFA Youth League. Both Manchester United and Real Madrid are participating in this season’s competition, while tournament regulations prevent a player from representing two different clubs in the same campaign.
Gabriel last featured for Manchester United in September, when he scored a hat-trick against Sabah in what was reportedly his final appearance for the club.
His potential departure would represent a significant development for United, considering his impressive progress through the club’s youth system.
The youngster was named Premier League Under-18 Player of the Season last term, despite being just 14 years old at the beginning of the campaign.
With his Ballon d’Or ambition now publicly declared and Real Madrid reportedly showing strong interest, Gabriel’s next career move is attracting considerable attention in European football.
