Kwara State Police Commissioner Leads Surveillance During Peaceful Protest Against Fuel Subsidy Withdrawal

In response to the demonstration, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Ebunoluwaritimi Adelesi, took charge of a team of policemen to ensure law and order during the workers’ rally.

A day before the protest, the Police Commissioner, along with the director of the State Security Services (SSS) and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the State, had a meeting with Labour leaders, industrial unions, and students unions, where she appealed to them to ensure a peaceful protest.

The workers began their rally at the Labour House, near Kwara State High Court Complex, along Lajorin Street, GRA, Ilorin.

They marched through various areas, including Offa Road extension, Flower Garden, and the Governor’s Office, before arriving at the main entrance of the Government House, Ilorin. Subsequently, they proceeded to the office of the deputy governor, Mr.

Kayode Alabi, who addressed them and promised to convey their message to the appropriate authorities.

The protesters, under the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), carried placards with different demands, including the repair of refineries and the release of withheld salaries for university lecturers and workers, among others.

The NLC chairman in the state, Comrade Muritala Olayinka, and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Joseph Tunde, led the demonstrators during the peaceful protest.
