During a press conference in Lagos, the Acting Controller Customs Area of FOU, Zone A, Deputy Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu, revealed that the seized items included 15 bulletproof jackets, 5 jack knives, and 20 bulletproof vests, all of which were unlawfully brought into the country due to the absence of essential documents, such as end-user certificates….CONTINUE READING
Additionally, the customs comptroller reported the confiscation of 7,728KG of Indian hemp, also destined for the South-East. Further interceptions comprised 5,642 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 18,925 liters of premium motor spirit, 49 cartons of children’s school shoes, 357 kegs of vegetable oil, 1 unit of a Honda Motorcycle, and 2 pre-owned vehicles.
Ejibunu attributed the success of these seizures to the dedication of their officers, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding the national economy and preventing the importation of prohibited and harmful goods.
The recent visit of the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, further inspired the officers, contributing to their exceptional performance.
The seized goods had a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N462.7 million, and N66.49 million was recovered as revenue through Demand Notices (DN) for underpaid customs duties. In connection with some of the seizures, 13 suspects were arrested and are currently at different stages of investigation and prosecution.
