According to a recent independent survey conducted by the Push Africa Foundation (PAF), Governor Douye Diri is ahead of other candidates in terms of popularity and acceptability in the upcoming Bayelsa State Governorship election.

The survey, which included both physical and online polls, revealed that Governor Diri emerged as the frontrunner with 45 percent of the total votes cast.

The poll was conducted across six communities in each of the eight Local Government Areas of the state. A total of 74,000 registered voters participated in the online poll, and 11,800 registered voters took part in the physical poll.

Participants cited Governor Diri’s political tolerance, maturity, peaceful disposition, accommodating spirit, ongoing construction of three Senatorial roads, and attention to workers’ welfare as factors influencing their choice during the survey.

Ms. Doris Egberamen, the Executive Director of Push Africa Foundation, confirmed the findings and announced that a second round of the poll would take place in September to include more communities and registered voters, as 25 percent of respondents were undecided in the current exercise.

The foundation, known for successfully organizing the 2019 Bayelsa gubernatorial election debate, also plans to host the 2023 governorship debate.

The organizers expressed gratitude to the participants for their honest and objective assessment of the governorship candidates, believing that the poll results would positively impact the voters’ informed decision-making during the upcoming governorship election.
