Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of the organization, conveyed this message through a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, on Thursday.

In its statement, Ohanaeze expressed concern that President Tinubu’s decision to nominate only five candidates from the South-East was perceived as unfair and unjust, especially when compared to other regions with nine or ten nominees.

The organization emphasized that the South East, which comprises five states established during past military regimes, is at a disadvantage in terms of influence and power dynamics.

While advocating for a united Nigeria built on principles of fairness, justice, and equity, Ohanaeze called on President Tinubu to intervene and rectify the perceived disparity, thereby restoring a sense of justice and balance in the country.

The statement underscored the historical context of the South East’s political position, highlighting that the creation of states and geopolitical zones was carried out during military administrations, without substantial involvement from the Igbo community.

This historical backdrop, according to Ohanaeze, contributed to the current predicament where the South East possesses fewer states and thus a weakened political, economic, and social standing.

The organization acknowledged that the current administration did not solely create this situation, but it appealed to President Tinubu to play a role in addressing it and fostering a more equitable distribution of resources and opportunities throughout Nigeria.

The statement concluded with a prayer for national prosperity and unity, emphasizing that leaders should guide the nation toward peace and progress, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
