Former Presidential aide and renowned author, Reno Omokri, has pointed a finger at the Buhari administration for the present economic struggles faced by Nigerians. He suggested that the past administration’s borrowing spree has placed undue pressure on the succeeding government of President Tinubu, making it challenging to stabilize the economy. Â
In a period characterized by rising fuel prices from subsidy removal, soaring school fees, and escalating prices of essential goods, coupled with the plummeting value of the naira, Nigerians are indeed grappling with a harsh economic climate. Omokri, in his critique, highlighted that the nation is undergoing its most challenging economic period since its independence in 1960, a situation he squarely attributes to Buhari’s governance approach.
Omokri cautioned, “We do not want our public comments to precipitate a French-style revolution in Nigeria,” emphasizing the potential consequences of political leaders not acting in the best interests of their constituents. He asserted that the senators, being representatives of Nigerians, ought to prioritize the welfare of the masses above their personal interests.
Furthering his argument, Omokri emphasized Nigeria’s oil production capacity in comparison to its population and juxtaposed it with other countries.
