Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, disclosed this in a statement. He referenced an “ugly and unfortunate incident” during a colloquium that commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage. Reportedly, journalists, claiming to be a part of the Deputy Governor’s media crew, tried to force their entry into the hall where Governor Obaseki and other esteemed guests were already seated. This act was in direct violation of the pre-established protocol for media presence at the event.
Nehikhare expressed his disappointment in the statement, labeling the incident as a “stage-managed walkout and disruption.” The statement further stated it’s regrettable and called on the Deputy Governor to engage the Ministry of Communication and Orientation for any media coverage pertaining to his office in the future.
