The delegation had chosen Zamfara as one of the 12 states for the implementation of a solar power initiative, and Governor Lawal expressed his administration’s commitment to offering the necessary support for the project.
The statement mentioned, “Governor Dauda Lawal, in his interactions with the SDG Youth delegation, reiterated his administration’s readiness to extend the required assistance for the project.
He expressed gratitude for selecting Zamfara as one of the 12 states to benefit from the introduction of solar power infrastructure in various regions of Nigeria.”
The SDG Youth project aims to provide 100KV solar power capacity to the College of Education (COE) in Maru. Additionally, it will involve training more than 50 young individuals in the installation and maintenance of solar power systems.
The delegation emphasized that the project has secured full sponsorship from the Saudi Arabian Government and BME Korea.
This initiative falls under the umbrella of Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) and is coordinated by the SDG Youth headquarters based in South Korea.
Governor Dauda Lawal further disclosed that he had deliberately chosen the College of Education in Maru as the pilot location for the solar installation project. This decision aligns with his determination to rejuvenate the educational sector within Zamfara State.
The delegation highlighted that their visit also presents an opportunity for the state to progress in various aspects of youth development, encompassing smart agriculture, scholarship opportunities, primary healthcare, sports advancement, promotion of girl-child education, and information technology.
Comprising senior government officials from Abuja, the SDG Youth delegation was led by the Nigeria/African regional representative, Mr. Uzoh Ifeanyi C, as detailed in the statement.
