The Commissioner revealed, “During the inaugural state executive council meeting, members approved the purchase of 57,000 bags of 50kg rice, totaling 2.508 billion naira. Additionally, the council sanctioned the acquisition of 26,000 bags of 100kg millets, amounting to 1.43 billion naira.”
He noted that the state government, in collaboration with the federal government, will also procure 44,000 bags of maize. Governor Sokoto intends to establish a committee to oversee the equitable distribution of these food items across the state’s 23 local government areas.
Furthermore, to enhance transportation accessibility in response to the subsidy removal, the state executive council has greenlit the purchase of fifty 18-seater Toyota Hiace Buses, 2022 model, at a cost of 2.8 billion naira. Additionally, over five hundred and sixty million naira has been allocated for acquiring 20 units of Toyota Camry, 2022 model, with a focus on providing transportation services for women in the state.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs also mentioned that these vehicles will be complemented by ten buses recently donated to the state by the BUA group.
