In a tragic turn of events, unidentified gunmen ambushed and reportedly killed at least eight security operatives in Imo state on Tuesday. The assailants also set two vehicles on fire during the attack.

A witness at the scene, speaking to journalists, shared that the incident unfolded around 11:30 am in Oriagu, near the Aba branch in the Ehime Mbano council area. The security personnel affected included soldiers, policemen, and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

A video capturing the aftermath of the attack depicted about four soldiers, lifeless in their uniforms, with their firearms beside them. Additionally, two security vehicles were shown engulfed in flames. Following the incident, the access road leading to the crime scene was promptly cordoned off, heightening tension in the vicinity.

Relaying the sequence of events, the eyewitness stated, “I first spotted the two Hilux vehicles as they were traveling from Oriagu towards the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano. The vehicles are still ablaze, and the soldiers were incinerated by the assailants. There’s palpable tension everywhere, with shops being shuttered and many heading home.”

Furthermore, the witness added, “I saw over five soldiers in the first vehicle, and the second seemed to have more than four security agents. I heard all of them were killed.”

As of the time of this report, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Henry Okoye, had not yet responded to requests for comments on the incident.
