Nigerians from various walks of life took to social media platforms, community gatherings, and other public forums to voice their concerns and dismay at such a perceived extravagant expenditure. The general consensus is that such funds, if indeed earmarked for this purpose, could be better utilized in areas that would have a direct positive impact on the lives of the common man, such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
A popular political analyst on a national TV broadcast commented, “At a time when many Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet, news such as this only widens the chasm between the elected and the electorates. There’s a need for more fiscal responsibility and transparency.”
In street interviews conducted in Lagos and Abuja, many expressed shock and disbelief. A trader in Lagos said, “How can they justify such an amount on cars? What about our roads, schools, and hospitals?” Another respondent, a civil servant in Abuja, remarked, “It’s not about the cars but about priorities.
