In recent years, there has been a significant influx of interest in Nasarawa State’s abundant mineral deposits, earning the state the moniker “Home of Solid Minerals.

This surge in interest has prompted several major corporate players to establish a presence in the state and exploit its mineral resources.

Among the prominent entities that have set up industrial operations in the state are Olam Nigeria Ltd, Dangote Sugar Refinery, Azama Nigeria Ltd, Flour Mills Nigeria, Bionas Group, ABS Blueprint Consortium, Prime Global, Beacon Energy, Green Sahara, Diamond Stripes, Barlow & Barrow International Nigeria Ltd, and Green and Energy Limited.

However, in recent months, lithium, among the various mineral deposits in the state, has become a particularly enticing prospect, with investors channeling substantial capital into its exploration.

The heightened demand for lithium, a highly reactive metal crucial in energy-dense rechargeable batteries used in cell phones, electric vehicles, and grid storage, can be attributed to the global shift toward renewable energy.

Governments worldwide are increasingly looking to phase out fossil fuel-powered vehicles in favor of emission-free electric cars, and this trend is a driving force behind the growing interest in lithium, as explained by Mr. Charles Asiegbu, a senior policy and research analyst with Nextier Group.
