This MoU, jointly signed by both parties on October 2, 2023, served as the ultimate resolution and a prerequisite for organized labor, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), to halt their planned nationwide strike.

The strike was initially prompted by the hardships experienced by Nigerians in the wake of the removal of fuel subsidies in May this year.

Among the stipulations of the agreement was a provision allowing the federal government to implement the MoU within a 30-day timeframe, which elapsed this week.

While the government has initiated some aspects of the agreement’s implementation, such as establishing seven Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

According to Comrade Joe Ajaero, the National President of the NLC, who briefed reporters on Sunday, the recently rescheduled meeting, initially slated for Monday but then moved to the following day, was intended to assess the progress in implementing the MoU.
