The tension has escalated to the extent of the Rivers State House of Assembly being set ablaze, and impeachment attempts against the current governor.

In a statement on Tuesday, Igbini, a supporter of Wike, affirmed that despite the discord, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains committed to ensuring his political protege governs the state for two consecutive terms, spanning eight years.

Despite Wike’s disappointment with Fubara’s political decisions, Igbini assured Fubara that Wike would support his re-election and cautioned him against deception.

Igbini stated, “Nyesom Wike will not and will never renege on his decision and determination to see that Governor Fubara emerged as governor and continues as governor of Rivers State for uninterrupted two terms of eight years (May 29, 2023 – May 29, 2031), not minding that Wike rightly feels heartbroken right now by few political misjudgments of Fubara.”

He emphasized Wike’s reputation for commitment and loyalty, asserting that Wike would not betray those he has pledged to support, even in the face of political challenges.

Meanwhile, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Desmond Akawor, disclosed that religious leaders and others are intervening in the conflict between Wike and Fubara.

Addressing PDP members in Port Harcourt, Akawor expressed confidence that the disagreement between the governor and the minister would be resolved, characterizing it as a typical political dispute between two individuals. He remarked, “It is only what God has done that has perfection.”
