Waheed Lawal, the Chairman of OCSC, highlighted these concerns in a statement issued to commemorate the 2023 World Human Rights Day. The coalition emphasized the adverse impact of inflation on the most vulnerable segments of society, with rising malnutrition and hunger rates, especially among children scavenging for food on the streets.
Lawal noted the struggle of Nigerians to survive, expressing dismay that political leaders and government officials appeared unwilling to reduce the cost of governance or share in the hardships faced by the populace. The coalition asserted that the government’s current stance indicates a failure in fulfilling its constitutional obligation to ensure the security and social wellbeing of the citizens.
