Addressing journalists in Benin, the capital of Edo State, Akpata criticized those alleging that he sought to secure the LP ticket through financial means, deeming such accusations as immature. He asserted, “The rumor that I am sponsored by Godwin Obaseki is baseless and unfounded. It was circulated by two irresponsible online blogs, which I intend to confront vigorously because my strategy against fake news is to address it promptly before it gains traction.”
Akpata also addressed criticisms from some disgruntled politicians within his party, emphasizing that the notion of his alignment with Governor Obaseki is a feeble argument. He clarified, “My relationship with the governor has always been transparent. Only politicians who struggle with the concept of agreeing to disagree hastily conclude that sitting together implies belonging to the same camp.
